GPUDevice: label property

Experimental: This is an experimental technology
Check the Browser compatibility table carefully before using this in production.

The label read-only property of the GPUDevice interface is a string providing a label that can be used to identify the object, for example in GPUError messages or console warnings.

Value

A string. If no label value has previously been set, getting the label returns an empty string.

Examples

async function init() {
  if (!navigator.gpu) {
    throw Error("WebGPU not supported.");
  }

  const adapter = await navigator.gpu.requestAdapter();
  if (!adapter) {
    throw Error("Couldn't request WebGPU adapter.");
  }

  // Create a GPUDevice
  const device = await adapter.requestDevice();

  // Set a label
  device.label = "mylabel";

  // Get a label
  console.log(device.label);

  // ...
}
